Report by Jeremy Havardi

‘B’nai B’rith, together with its advocacy arm, the London Bureau, is appalled at yesterday’s BBC’s report by Orla Guerin in which the veteran journalist linked the commemoration of the Holocaust with Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian people. In the report, Ms Guerin interspersed footage of Yad Vashem and Holocaust survivors with Israeli soldiers, and ended by saying:

The State of Israel is now a regional power. For decades it has occupied Palestinian territories. But some here will always see their nation through the prism of persecution and survival.”

By trying to score political points during coverage of this tragedy, she has weaponised the Holocaust in the most shameful terms while giving vent to her own deep seated political prejudices. She appears to be implying that Jews have missed the moral lesson of the Holocaust by becoming aggressors themselves, worse that they are using the tragedy as a cover for their own ‘crimes.’ This report falls foul of the most basic standards of journalistic integrity and is an insult to six million Jewish dead. B’nai B’rith will be initiating a complaint against the BBC in the strongest terms.’
