Report by Jeremy Havardi

BBUK, together with its advocacy arm, the London Bureau, condemns unreservedly the hateful comments made by Jeremy Corbyn in 2013, which have been widely reported in recent days. His attack on British Zionists for their failure to ‘understand English irony’ despite ‘having lived in this country for a very long time’ is a brazen attack on the Jewish community whose members do indeed have deep roots in this country. These remarks reflect long standing negative stereotypes of British Jews as being alien to English customs and ways of thinking. As such, they are hateful and incendiary comments which have no place in a civilised society. BBUK has no interest in engaging with a Labour leadership that is institutionally antisemitic. Instead we call on Labour MPs to condemn Mr Corbyn’s bigoted views without equivocation.
