BBLBIA writes to Mr. Antonio Tajani
Jeremy Havardi Director of BBLBIA writes to Mr. Antonio Tajani President of the European Parliament
Report by Jeremy Havardi
Mr. Antonio Tajani
President of the European Parliament
Rue Wiertz 60, 1047 Brussels
26th February 2018
Dear President Tajani,
On behalf of B’nai B’rith UK and its political arm, the London Bureau, I would like to express our deepest concerns at the invitation of Omar Barghouti to the event ‘The Israeli settlements in Palestine and the European Union’ which is being held inside the European Parliament on 28 February.
Mr Barghouti is the global leader of the BDS movement which calls for a total economic, cultural and academic boycott of Israel. This runs counter to the EU’s goal of achieving a peaceful, two state solution to the conflict and threatens to cut the important links between Israeli and Palestinian organisations that are working for peace and co-existence.
We would ask that if the invitation is not rescinded, there is a restatement of the European Parliament’s rejection of the BDS movement. This would reassure all those who continue to advocate for co-existence and peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Director, B’nai B’rith UK’s Bureau of International Affairs
